empezar uses an "a" before a verb infinitive. - 0074b507, Apr 11, 2011
is that a "después de que" ....situation? - 0074b507, Apr 11, 2011
Would it be: Empezó a beber alcohol después de perder su trabajo? Your version looks like - He started drinking (imperfect) vs He started to drink (preterite) - but I have been known to get this kind of thing wrong lol and maybe one doesn't have to be - Kiwi-Girl, Apr 11, 2011
quite so literal and either will work. I'm sure someone more in the know will help clarify :) - Kiwi-Girl, Apr 11, 2011
No subject change so después de perder looks good. - 0074b507, Apr 11, 2011
Empezó a beber alcohol después de perder su trabajo?, indeed, same subject, infinitive, good one kiwi and quen, you will be the official correctors soon, jeje - 00494d19, Apr 11, 2011

Empezar de nuevo nunca es fácil después de una tragedia como la que le ocurrió a la gente de Japón.

Starting over is never easy after a tragedy such as the one that happened to the people of Japan.

Empezar desde cero, como han tenido que hacer muchas personas mexicanas cuando se mudaron al norte, a los estados unidos, debe de ser dificilísimo.

Starting from zero, as many Mexican people have had to do when moving North to the United States of America, must be extremely difficult.

Sally, just a note. We all know your meaning I'm sure but Mexico is already part on North America. - Yeser007, Apr 11, 2011
you could change it by saying ...moving north to the US. - Yeser007, Apr 11, 2011
Excellent, Sally! "debe ser dificilísimo" is very colloquial, the standard would be " debe de ser difícilisimo" Well done, as usual ! :) - cogumela, Apr 11, 2011
Oh, of course! thanks guys. :D and Cogu, yes I was wondering about 'debe ser' or 'debe de ser' - now I know! - galsally, Apr 12, 2011
"Debe ser" is an obligation, "debe de ser" is an assumption. - LuisCache, Apr 12, 2011

'...nothing better to start the day than a delicious...' or '...nothing better than starting the day with...'. Isn't English horrible! 'Begin' is possible but 'start' more common. x - galsally, Apr 11, 2011
