rebar? Varilla?
I just read an article in an online Mexican newspaper that referred to a construction worker being electrocuted as he was "colocando una varilla en la parte más alta del edificio". Am I correct that a possible translation for "varilla" would be "rebar" in that case?
I don't know much about construction, but I am familiar with what a "rebar" is in English, and this would seem like a possible translation.

barra de refuerzo fierro estriado: I like this because it is ribbed or deformed rebar. Smooth rebar is used in joints (road pavement, sidewalk, etc, where the concrete can slide with temperature changes)
