Nada means nothing, but can nada also mean anything Él no compra nada tampoco. He doesn't buy anything either.

Not that regularly "anything" means "nada", but in this particular situation it does. smile

In Spanish, if a sentence is negative, everything has to be negative, so while we would say "he doesn't buy anything" they say "no compra nada".

It's not like in English where two negatives contradict each other and make a positive - "he doesn't buy nothing" = he buys something

The "doesn't" makes the sentence negative so the Spanish is saying "he buys nothing"
