How do I say "We have a sample for you"?
Here's the situation. In a dispensary, a patient from Venezuela has been prescribed a medicine he can not afford. After filling out the assistance forms with the drug company (it takes four weeks to be approved), we wanted to provide him with samples until his prescription could be completed. I pointed at the chairs in the waiting room and said "Sientese, por favor." He sat down. We prepared the sample and I went to him and said "Tenemos una muestra para ti", meaning to say, "We have a sample for you", understanding the prescription was the sample (?).
He looked puzzled, then looked at the floor. I handed him the pescription and he replied "Gracias".
Did I confuse him? How can I say it more clearly?
Thanks!

Maybe he would have been more comfortable with the word "prueba de medicina?"
When I looked in the dictionary I found:
To take a sample (medicina) = Tomar una muestra
