Translating Cervantes

Buenos días, mis amigos! Por favor, Cervantes is attributed with the proverb: It is one thing to praise discipline, and another to submit to it.

So I make this: Una cosa es para alabar la disciplina, es otra lo a presentar. (literally, One thing is for to praise discipline, it is another it to submit (to)...)

Ahhhh, is this even close? muchas gracias!

You have several mistakes: "para" is not needed, "presentar" isn't the correct verb and the second part of the sentence is not correctly worded.

That's a phrase from the novel "El coloquio de los perros" and in the original it is written as: "Una cosa es alabar la disciplina y otra el darse con ella".

"Someterse" is correct, but it is: "y otra es someterse a ella." - 00e657d4, Apr 4, 2011
