I found this picture on the internet. Was the sign not supposed to say trees falling

Up here near the Canadian border, lots of tree felling goes on! It's timber country here, and "to fell" is a special verb meaning to cut down. It almost always refers to a tree ("We need to fell that tree before the wind blows it down,") but can also be used in this way: "My little cousin was felled by a stray bullet during a robbery."

It's the same over here in England. Tree felling is the action of cutting or chopping down a tree.

Tree falling is an indication that the tree is in fact falling or could be that the tree is likely to fall at any moment.

I think it is possible to "fell" anything "that can be taken down"; "The contender for the boxing championship was felled in the first round." "The ancient sky-scraper was felled with explosives."
