Does Hinojosa represent where he is from?

I need to know why a doctor has a hyphanated last name. His name is Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, but in some articles he only goes by Quinones but in others the writers include both names. Does Hinojosa represent where he is from?

The internet is replete with articles about Dr. Q. He is arguably the greatest brain tumor surgeon in the country. His story is truly a success story.

I've read through several articles in an attempt to answer this question. My best guess is that he, like many Hispanics, prefers to carry an additional name to revere his heritage. This sometimes causes problems when integrating into the US culture, so he is sometimes called "Dr Quinones" or just "Dr Q".

I recommend you do a good search on the internet. He appears to be an amazing individual.
