checke pues?
Not sure about the spelling, but my friends recently came back from Honduras, which they said was beautiful, and brought back this saying "checke, or checke pues" which they say means "cool", or "cool then." For example:
¿vamos a la cine?
si.
checke pues
Does anyone use this? I've never heard it before. I think it's catchy though. Gracias! Leah

Let me clarify this a bit about "Pues".
The word "Well" has a variety of different meanings. We start with the most common, considering that whatever the function, the use of "Pues" is intended to respond and still to continue an ongoing conversation:

- First. "Pues" may be understood as a confirmation, denial or refusal of something according to the next or previous idea you are expressing:
"Pues", yo acepto = "Well", I agree = You express agree, because you confirm the good way things go.
"Pues" creo que esta mal = "Well", I think it´s wrong = "Pues" support your opinion: confirm your disapproval for something.
"Pues" entonces vámonos!! = "Ok", so we leave! = This can be for example an angry reaction by a group of people after an argument. They refuse something and confirm by leaving.

- Second. "Pues" can be used in common language but is more constant in poetical or intellectual language, very useful. It works as an explicative conjunction similar to "as" (to give reasons) and because in some cases:
No se pudo juntar el dinero, "pues" nadie prestó = Money couldn´t be collected, "as" nobody give anything.
La tristeza era mucha "pues" el padre había muerto = The sadness was very much, "because/as" the father had dead. . . At the same time "Pues" may be combined with "Porque" to give affirmative/negative strong answers with a more or less logical or obvious answer:
¿Por qué mamá se ve gorda?... Pues, porque está embarazada!!
Why does mom look fat?... Well, because she is pregnant!! ... ... Por qué el cielo es azul? mmm, "pues", porque si.
Why is the sky blue? mmm, "well", because yes.

- Third. "Pues" can be used when there is doubt about something
Les di pan a... pues, no sé = I gave bread to.... well, I don't know
¿Cual es el nombre de esa cosa?... Pues... pues... no se
What is the name name of that thing?... Well... Well... i don't know

In general terms "Pues" is used in Spanish to incapié of what is said. Because of this, it can be found in "poetic or intellectual" language, but it depends on the sentence because you can hear archaic, rural or "naco".

I find all kinds of links googling if you include Honduras in the search parameters (cheque pues Honduras). Few mention its meaning, however.
