galapago etymology and various meanings

I need to know the etymology and historical development (I mean, when did other meanings of the word begin? What meaning was first?) of the word galapago. I would also like to understand more certainly what the other meanings mean (here there is listed 'a pig of copper?') Sadly, I only speak English, but wish for an OED-like dictionary definition of the Spanish word. Muchas gracias!

I think that is a little esoteric for this forum. I would try some forums on etymology.
