Jon, I don't think it's because there are no fans here, it's just that your question may not translate literally. For instance,

Messi has lots of clever moves could be messi juega al fútbol hábilmente.

he likes to 'fake-out' the opposing players? Le gusta confundir el contrario.

I suppose there are numerous ways to translate your two phrases.

In English you would say he likes to send his opponets the wrong way.
