No tengo ningúna idea como utilizar la palabra "ningúno."

I have no idea how to use the word, "ningúno."

"Ninguno" is a really tricky word for English speakers learning Spanish. This, for me is because:

  1. We use it like "no" but not all situations of "no." It is more like "not any," something we never say.
  2. It has a tilde...on the "u" of all things.
  3. It switches from ningúno to ningúna for noun agreement. However, in the case of a singular masculine noun, it gets truncated into ningún. Like I'm going to remember that when speaking. Sure.

For this reason, it has helped me to memorize a phrase like "no tengo ningúna idea."

This phrase is useful in Spanish class when your teacher asks you a question you cannot answer. If you say, "Tengo no idea," as I first did, and as makes perfect sense to my mind, you will be wrong and they will correct you.

By the way, how many times have you felt like wearing this shirt to Spanish class?

Sometimes during the elections we are given no better option than to vote for no one.

This sentence is perfect as a pun, that even sounds brilliant, but it would be more correct to say : "que no votar a ninguno" , or " que votar en blanco". Excellent, Luz! :) - cogumela, Apr 1, 2011
What did you mean with the second half of this: "This sentence is perfect as a pun, that even sounds brilliant"? - 002067fe, Apr 1, 2011

It does not work, theresa. You can't use the double negation in this way. It should be: No como ningún dulce nunca. Bueno, rara vez los como. Well done! :) - cogumela, Apr 1, 2011
raramente is correct too, the second part of your sentence is good! :) - cogumela, Apr 1, 2011
