What does this mean? I have an idea but not too sure because it was said by a dominican and dont know if its sarcasm or not. Again its "que profundo esta el niño". Thank you in advance.

In the Dominican Republic, as well as Puerto Rico, Cuba, and some other Caribbean territories, we use that term to refer to a male (not necessarily a "niño"-child) who has said or done anything that could be considered uncharacteristically deep, philosophical, profound. Say, I have a friend who's always been an insensitive roughneck, and one day, out of the blue, he says:
"Siento que la vida se me va, y no sé cual es mi propósito en ella..."
That comment could elicit a "¡Ay, Jesus, que profundo esta el niño !"
