why is it hard to get reputation/badges?
why is it so hard to get reputation and badges. It takes forever to get reputation and badges. My brother and I had sine up this morning, really early this morning and together we only have two badges and I am the one who got them both. Plus if you add up all the reputation we got today you get zero. Not even one reputation. It is just so hard. I am so upset

That depends on what you call hard? Nothing worth having in life usually comes easy most of the time you have to work for it ! But then when you get it you will really appreciate it even more.
It took me a whole year to get to where i am now. Admittedly my Spanish level was already at the level of lower intermediate whereas now it is higher intermediate and I still make mistakes.Learning is a journey not an overnight event!
I would suggest you start by listening to all the teaching videos by our excellent on line teacher Paralee Whitmire. I am reviewing them all again. If you do this it will help you improve your Spanish (unless you are already fluent.) you will then be in a better position to offer advice and corrections on other people's basic Spanish after you have built up a solid foundation of knowledge and understanding. You can gain points this way.
Here is a direct link to the teaching videos (They are 10- 15 minutes long )
You can obtain points by:
1 offering people Bithday wishes ito people on the posts created by others in English, Spanish or both (but not mixed together the natives do not generally like Spanglish lol)
2 Congratulating them on reaching milestones such as 10k points
3 Asking intelligent questions
4 Answering questions on the discussion threads where simply giving your opinion is acceptable You can answer in English and/or Spanish
These are just some of the ways you can gain reputation points
The most effective way to gain a good reputation here is through the way you treat others in this community this will help you gain friends much faster than any reputation points, simply by being friendly to people and showing respect.
Simply aim to learn and help others and the points will take care of themselves

If you build it(your reputation) they (the points) will come.
That's a really sad story! If you don't get your reputation and badges up by the end of the week, you'll lose your hair and your heart will weaken so much that a heart attack will be almost unavailable. My high numbers, of course, shield me from all danger. I really pity you.
Every day in every way I shall gain more and more points, until I reach
the" Nirvana " of all point scorers, the penultimate pinnacle of points,
100 K At which point I shall enter the "Kingdom of Pointamania "
and have more points than a Porcupine , some are pointedly parsimonious
in proffering points , but I have a penchant for point proffering so will point one in your direction ,as a panacea to the penury of points you pander after.

The point stupa of the High Priestess of points.
What do you mean hard? I've got all my reputation points and badges just by making silly jokes and giving people a hard time! Piece of cake!
These "reputation" points reward both quality and participation. You have to play to win, although winning is not guaranteed. ![]()
You may like to read up on it here.
Too bad the point system cannot measure proficiency :( - pesta 1 hr ago flag
Oh come on Pesta, then I will have to go all the way back to ten points and start over. ![]()
I have been saving my points and badges for so long. I'm sure the gift catalog will arrive any day now so that I can cash all of those points in. Sort of like "green stamps". Do you remember those?
My mother would save those forever and wind up with a can opener.
It is better to give than receive. How do you get Reputation Points? People like us vote for your answer. If we don't think your answer is that good, we don't vote for it. You have no control over this, except for making sure that your answers are correct, funny or otherwise deserving of points.
You will get one reputation point per day for each vote you give, though. It doesn't really rack up the points, but if you make sure that you give ten votes per day, you can guarantee that you will get ten points.
Learning Points, on the other hand are completely under your control. Do the video lessons. Do the flashcard sets. You will earn Learning Points. Then, you can take what you learned and use it in the Answers Forum. And, maybe knowing more about the language will help you earn Reputation Points.
By the way, all of these points are very addictive. Beware.
Bekah,
What good are reputation points? Can one exchange them for money? If that were the case, I might be more focused on earning reputation points. How about those badges? Do we really get a private jet when we reach 100? If points and badges were worth money I think I would make this my full time job. ![]()
I am not in any popularity contest myself. I simply enjoy learning from this site. Some days I only read the threads without posting any answers and some days I do. I would participate in this site even if we did not gain any points. I barely have 3k while others have more than 100k. It does not bother me.
While reputationand badges are a measure of participation, the exact number really shouldn't be all that important to us. I am more focused on learnining. It is a lot of fun. So, my advice would be to not worry about those points and make sure you gain some intelligence instead.
.
Just a thought.
Hasta luego en el foro.

Reputation points are not a reliable i.e.: accurate guide to a person's competence or proficiency in speaking and writing Spanish or English.
I have some 2 -3,000 more repuation points than both Cogumela and Carlos yet they are both fluent Spanish speakers! Conversely, there may be some others who are ahead of me in terms of reputation points yet not as proficient in either the spoken or written Spanish but that is not for me to judge. I am simply pointing out the possibility
So please do not think of reputation points .as being a true indicator of either popularity or proficiency they are not intended to be They are simply a guide and a pointer by which you can measure your own success and see how you are improving
They are not really badges of honour nor prizes for finishing the race to the top first lol

How you treat others here and are treated by them in return will provide you with a more accuarte guide to your reputation in SpanishDict

If you really want to gain some reputation points and badges, be a cardiac surgeon. Why? You can be the first person to post on the "picture of the day" which comes out around 3am. It's a good chance your up anyway in the emergency room waiting for the type 1 aortic dissection that's 50 miles away from the hospital. ![]()
I thought it was too easy. Guess it's all about perspective. My reputation is not based on my knowledge, apparently mine comes from participation, and attempting to be thoughtful. I have a large Spanish vocabulary, and can barely put together a correct sentence.
All I want to know is whether or not Lazarus is still a bourgeois fatcat?? I don't care for air travel much but a quick spin in his Learjet would be an awesome treat, no? If in fact he is still this "burgués gerifalte" then perhaps a new avatar is in order? [Much love]

While we are on the subject of points , I have a little whinge , well a big whinge
really , and it is this . "I have been stuck on 200 for over six , that is 6 hours
why is that so" , or even how is that so , i have two and a half pages of
zeros. One works hard to earn these wretched points and at least if they can
go up gradually over 24 hours they should come down at the same rate .
that is all my whinge time is up i can go back on the potty now.

If it was easy to get reputation and badges then everyone would have them. Personally I concentrate more on doing the lessons and occassionally answer a question if I think I have something helpful (or funny) to offer. Just be patient and the reputation and awards will come.
