How to make hypothetical situations

How to make hypothetical situations

I am currently writing an essay for my Spanish 308 class and I was wondering how does one make a hypothetical situation? I am doing a rhetorical assignment about a social issue and I picked the stereotypes of males and females and how they are not beneficial. In the last part of the essay I say

"Piense sobre este; le gustaría si los papeles se cambian? Cada día, usted ve las publicidades y ellas son ataques a su sexo. También, en su trabajo, su sueldo está menos que otras porque usted es el sexo incorrecto..." It goes on, but you get the point.

But here is my question: should I be using the indicative tenses? When I was proof reading my essay, I thought that maybe the subjunctive should be used instead since these are hypothetical situations.
What do you guys think? Which tense would you use for hypothetical situations?

"Piense sobre este; le gustaría que los papeles se cambiaran? Cada día, usted ve publicidad y muchas son ataques a su sexo. También, en su trabajo, su sueldo es inferior a ottos porque usted es mujer

You are right, a hypotherical situation is expressed with si +subjunctive

Si Usted fuera mujer....si usted trabajara....

I can see a lot of gender agreement problems here, check the nouns for gender etc.

Thanks. And this is a rough draft that I had written just an hour before and hadn't had a chance to correct. I guess I should have. - chad_es_epico, Mar 29, 2011
