Ya basta de hacer cuentas

Question

Does that mean, That's enough already, of making accounts....... and ya basta de is a construction so if I said ya basta de llamar por telefono, ya basta de manejar el coche. Etc..... it works? Gracias.

Ya basta de or Ya basta con are both common constructions and can be used anytime you indicate that you have had enough.

Ok I'm far from an expert, but when I first read it I thought it meant something like "Enough. Quit making up stories." (like maybe, lying??) As to whether it works in other sentences I would think so, yes, but it sounds kind of strong to me.

I thought "basta, ya" was more common than "ya, basta". This is the way I use it, is this not correct?

Hi Sheily, both structures are used. It's just a matter of preference. Placing "ya" after "basta" adds a bit more emotion - 005faa61, Mar 28, 2011

I've heard folks just say "Basta" and get the point across... just depends on the circumstances....
