A Cartoon for Today: "Obama care"
I thought it would be fun to discuss this cartoon in English or Spanish (no moderator present). Share what you think the point of this cartoon could be, as well as if you agree or not with the message. Today I chose an American political cartoon, but I promise to choose a cartoon in Spanish for another day!

some political experts enjoy a unique opportunity to take advantage of a crisis to further their own political interests
Like invading Iraq, for instance.
If Obamacare is allowed it will bankrupt insurance companies and lead to nationalized health care. Companies are required to cover pre-existing conditions without raising rates
Stop drinking the Limbaugh koolaid: it is only intended for for idiots (in the technical sense).
The current American health sytem wastes 60% of the money it brings in on things that have nothing to do with providing healthcare. You need to stop believing in the lies promulgated by idiots and look at the economic data yourself.
The problem that exists today has been growing for decades, and it largely exists because of highly voca lidiots that claim it does not exist, and you are oneof them.
The fact is that back in the 60's the average middle classworker had insurance that allowed him to pick his own doctor and cover his own family without copays. A single wage earner could also support a famiy and a few hobbies, like sailboating or having a ski shack.
The reality today, in post Reaganomics America, is that working people cannot support a family, that it takes at least two people to maintain a middle class life style.
There is a reason why when you look at the national deficit as a percentage of the GDP whe they enterred and left office, it has increased under the last 4 Republican Presidents, but it has not yet increased under a Democratic President.
The Government sure is getting corrupt and they are hurting so many innocent people in the process. Prices go up and it's hurts the poorer people worse than the others. Our country's headed for disaster with all the money they're printing...
Bueno, trataré....
Mente, engaña, roba, consiga tu manera, no importa cómo.
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel gained notoriety for declaring his credo: You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. In other words, when there is tragedy and suffering, intense human pain and disaster, some political experts enjoy a unique opportunity to take advantage of a crisis to further their own political interests."

Obama's health care plan is a joke. They couldn't pass it when Hillary tried it and the only reason it passed this time was because of back room deals and sneaky tricks. If it is so great, why are so many big corporations getting waivers - and why is Obamoa allowing it?
Covering pre-existing conditions is insane. Let's not stop there, let's apply it to car insurance. Just wait until you have an accident and then go buy the insurance and have your car fixed. Does that seem logical? Insurance companies would go broke. Just let Uncle Sam pick up the tab you say? - You are Uncle Sam. It will come out of your pocket. In a time when we are trillions of dollars in debt we should not spending even more money - money that we will have to borrow and pay interest on. It is no way to run a country.
Look at that baby in Canada. They were going to just pull the plug. You can bet that is just what will happen here if we get nationalized health care. Once it is in place Obama will say, whoops, this is costing too much money, those old folks are taking too much money to keep alive and there is no point in paying for their medicines.
If you are still rooting for Obama then there is not much I can say to you but if you are nuetral I urge you to get off your couch and make sure that this madness comes to a screeching halt in 2012.
The good Samaritan helped the person on the road to Damascus but I didn't see him forcing other people to stop and help or trying to pass a bill to make people help.
As far as Obamacare itself, I think it and Bush's overhaul of Medicare were more about ensuring profits for the companies involved with the healthcare industry than about improving the situation for consumers. The real issue about the outrageously high cost of medical care in the US in comparison to what similar levels of care cost in other countries still needs to be addressed, and both the Democrats and the Republicans remain focused on narrow issues that play to their fan base but are largely irrelevant and often have little factual basis.
I'd say Obamacare was too little too late for the dearly departed Senator! ![]()
You can read many comments people make - leaders included - in more than one way and the way you read it will be coloured by your already existing (one's) view of politicians and life in general. Yes, I know many of them are corrupt and their motives can be highly suspect....proven afterwards by a high profile court case/lawsuit!.
However, I don't think it is fair to tarnish them all with the same brush! As for satyrists and political cartoonists.. are they not paid to take a somewhat cyncical and biased view of leaders, because, like sensationalism, you sell more papers that way... irrespective of whether their views are true?!!!
You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.
...could also be interpreted as you should never miss an opportunity to help people who are in a crisis and take the advantage this gives to change the situation/turn it around for good!
I think it is highly likely that party- politics and other vested interests in many a country can get in the way of politicians making fair, wise and balanced decisions on behalf of the people who voted them into power. Notwithstanding, their original motives could have been for good to help. I strongly believe that Barak Obama was right in helping to extend the health service to cover poorer people. ..evn if the way it was done might be open to question. It would be shameful to think that ambulances and medical staff would only help people if they had enough money to pay first In England we have a health service that, despite being overburdened with bureaucracy, is still Free at the point of need This is a fantastic principle which is worth fighting to preserve, and allows people from all walks of life/all social backgrounds to benefit although its original intention was to provide a safety net for the poor and underpriveleged.
I cannot remember anywhere in the Parable of the Good Samaritan where Jesus mentions the samaritan checked to see if the man could afford to pay for his assistence before the Samaraitan was willing to help him. The richer people like the priest and levite passed the injured man by and ignored his need sadly today they still do!
For me the whole point of coming out of the trees and living in society is health (including safety) and education. I can't understand why any state would exist if it doesn't do it's best to provide these things for free. (especially to people under 18 who don't have any opportunity whatsoever to get these things through hard work)
I don't know if Obama's health care plan would have worked or not. I know there has to be some way for the richest country in the world to work out some kind of system so that its people are looked after.
Hmmm, just wondering why a clear majority of the states are now suing the Fed over this health care "law?" (law in quotation marks because it's use is debatable)... I realize a major sticking point is over whether the Fed can mandate that individuals purchase health insurance. Talk about a revolution!
