How do you say "single parent"

How do you say "single parent"

I have seen the term "papá soltero" or "padre soltero" used but some sources indicated that the feminine version "madre soltero" could carry a negative connotation such as a mother that had a child out of wedlock rather than someone that was widowed or divorced.

What would be the proper term for a male divorced single parent?

Are you looking for the Spanish word for divorcé? (woman-divorcée)

If you were a widower (woman-widow)=viudo

(if you have remarried, you would not be referring to yourself as a divorcé, so the single adjective is redundant)

divorcé=divorciado

divorcée=divorciada

So I would suggest padre divorciado

The title of this site might interest you.

Foro dirigido al Padre Divorciado (my guess: divorced parent)

U. t. c. s. [también usado como sustantivo]

First it is "madre soltera" not soltero.

My best answer might be "padre sin pareja" or "padre separado"

@qfreed- That seems to unneccesarily highlight the divorce. I am more interested in conveying the concept that I'm a single parent than getting into the reasons why.

Then go with padre sotlero and whether you were ever married is no one's business until you offer an explanation if you feel it necessary. - 0074b507, Mar 25, 2011
Padre divorciado would only highlight that you were once married. - 0074b507, Mar 25, 2011

for a male divorced single parent

Padre soltero

We would still use this , even though the man is a divorcé.
