"di" = "(yo) di" = I gave

Use "[ellos] dieron", and remember that "a él" probably should be omitted unless you have a good reason to use it. If you are not sure when or why to add that "a él", for the moment better avoid it until you learn more about it.

Check the tense of the verb. Also, do you need "a él" with the indirect object pronoun?
