Being chosen isn't always what we want....
Why are they taking away my reputation points just because I was voted up or accepted as the best answerer?

It's funny how that works. I think the computer system is adjusting to recent changes in your score history. The limit of 200 rep points over 24 hours is applied every time points are awarded. At the moment of the award, it looks backwards exactly 24 hours and sees how many points total exist for that time. For some reason, it sometimes finds more than 200 points, and adjusts to the 200 limit by subtracting points.
I would guess that changes to the server computer's clock could account for this - for example, changing to daylight saving time. That change was probably not automatic last week, because servers are usually set up to remain stable. Possibly somebody changed the server clock time.
It will settle out soon. It happened to me a few times over the last year.
It ocassionally happens as a reminder that reputation is not so important.

I have seen other people complain of this occasionally. I've never heard what fixes it.
Now I see what the problem is. It's to keep you from getting more rep points than I have.
The points sure are nice. Some days I lose nearly as many as I gain, Since understanding the system, I don't regard the points so much as the practice and research.
Well, I'm still going down..... :(
I personally think it is funny, jeje, I am sure it has often happened to me, but I never even so much as look at my points, I have actually asked people on daily threads never to accept my answers.
I haven't got a clue....I was just rambling![]()
This is the first time I've seen a -1 rep before. I know only 200 points for reputation are allowed in a 24 hour period so I wonder if that has something to do with the negation?
That happened to me a few times before, but you must thank God you lose one rep when you get voted up (when this happened with me I lost 10 reps every time I got voted up)!
