We all know that Spanish has many words that share a common meaning. Often one word is common is one country or region while a synonym is used in another country or region. So let´s put our thinking caps on and list all the synonyms we can recall. Add a country or region if you know it. (Synonyms of course, won't always have exactly the same meaning in every situation and context).

  • refrigerator: la nevera (Spain), el refrigerador (Americas)
  • cellphone, cellular phone:el móvil (Spain), el celular (Americas)
  • to fear, to be afraid: temer, ausustarse, tener miedo
  • to meet, to have a meeting: reunirse, quedar (Spain)
  • to find out: enterar, averiguar, descubrir, hallar
  • to review or check: revisar, comprobar
  • to locate: localizar, ubicar
  • to cheat: engañar, timar
  • to pretend: fingir, disimular
  • to attempt or try: pretender, intentar
