Any embarassing stories while you were practicing speaking Spanish?

My most embarrassing moment was when I posted a thread which read-

" The girl sailor sold herself world wide " instead of "Sailed around the world".

Was my face red ? Yes it certainly was.

I posted this incident before. In a small gift shop in Granada, Spain, I asked the clerk if he had any rameras for sale. Ramera means prostitute! I had meant to say, "do you have any remeras?" which meant T-shirts. We both laughed for about ten minutes!

Spanish no, but my first trip to the hairdressers in the Czech Republic.. .

We'd been learning 2 things the previous day in Czech class, how to get your hair cut, and how to pick up an attractive man walking his dog.

I thought I understood all very well and didn't write down the English translations of the words.

As a result I went into the hairdressers and said:

Mužu si ho pohladit?

Which means Can I stroke it?

And it's not a personal story, but a friend of mine persistantly said "con jo" instead of "conmigo" *blush* - rabbitwho, Mar 19, 2011

I have yet to say something that made me completely embarrassed. But when I was working as a exterminator, I was telling the Spanish speaking owner that the price was "40 dolores" forgetting the accent. He chuckled, didn't bellow with laughter, I guess he understood

One of my favorite dishes for lunch is "puntas albañil. Four of us were ordering lunch in an old part of town and when it came my turn , I guess I did not pronounce "puntas" correctly, you would have thought the roof was going to collapse from the laughter..

I remember one comment in particular,correcting me " puNtas güeey puNtas! you can well guess the rest, some of the commentay was among the "unpostables"embarrassing but very funny.

Second time correcting myself in this post " puntas = tips .Uff.

On a recent holiday in Cuba, it was very cold, and I decided to have a shot of rum to 'warm me up." I asked the bar-man for the drink, "para calentarme", and he began to smile and laughed with his colleague. Another staff person told me that what I said has sexual connotations, as in to "get me hot", sorry if this is a little inappropriate for this site, but I didn't think I had asked incorrectly. Any thoughts? Thanks.
