A Spanish Saying?
In O'Brien's Aubrey-Maturin novels, el Doctor uses a "Spanish saying" which rendered in English is "May no new thing arise". I think this would be "Puede surgir nada nuevo"; is this correct? Is/was this a Spanish aphorism? I understand that "Revenge is a dish best eaten cold" is of Spanish origin, also (La venganza es un plato que se come frío ??) Verdad? muchas gracias!

Why not put it in subjunctive just as it is in English?
Que no surga nada nuevo.
