La Voz de la Purepacha

Question

Does anyone reading this speak this language? I used to know a man that was trying to teach me, and all I can remember is Parangaricutirimícuaro. I think it is a language that is going extinct.

I know he was from Michoacan, and quite a joker, so perhaps he was pulling my leg.

I originally tried to post this only using the word Purepacha, and the computer informed me I was on letter short, so I changed it to La Voz de la Purepacha which is a promo saying (not sure what that is called) for a radio station in Michoacan.

The language according to an historical source on the internet which I have long since lost is only spoken by 100 thousand now. Sorry I don't have links for any of this.

You should always be suspicious of a Mexican friend claiming to teach you a language, particularly if the lessons include weird and difficult words. Most Mexicans have a devilish sense of humor.

I think this is maybe a joke... "pacha" is a Quecha word meaning: "earth", "The Earth", "the world". It's a commonly used Quechua word even amongst a large part of the Spanish speaking population in Peru.

So this person speaks a langauge called "Pure World/Earth".
