Are "Salir" & "Dejar" interchangable?

Question

Are "Salir" & "Dejar" interchangable? or are there better times to use "Salir" and better times to use "Dejar?"

If I said "I want to leave." "Yo quiero a salir." "Yo quiero a dejar." would "dejar" be weird there?

And is one more common than the other in certain countries?

I can't think of a situation where they are interchangeable.

If you are departing from a place, you use salir.

If you are leaving something behind, you use dejar.

Salir - to leave, as in I'm leaving this room.

Dejar - to leave, as in I'm leaving this book here with you.

In English, you wouldn't interchange the sense of these two meanings, whether or not they're expressed with the same word (leave) or different words (as in Spanish salir y dejar).

Salir is to go out, dejar is to leave as in I am leaving you

Yo quiero salir. I do think dejar sounds wierd.
