There are lots of rules, but in general it's best to use ser when you need a one syllable infinitive and estar when you need two syllables. . .we are talkig about using the infinitives in songwriting, are't we?

Let me recommend you watch the following video at this site, and do a quick search on the forum for the use of "ser" and "estar".
