I have the sentence here. Which one I should use había or haya? Ayer, cuando volví a casa, Tere ya había/haya hecho la comida.

I am confused when to use.. Please help me.

I believe that haya is used in the subjunctive to mean there is or there are. I think you want to use había in your example sentence.

Ayer, cuando volví a casa, Tere ya había hecho la comida.

volví is in the preterite tense and había the imperfect tense.

Haya can serve as an aulixary verb in the subjunctive. It need not be impersonal haber (there is, there are). - 0074b507, Mar 13, 2011
