'"El sexto derecha?"

'"El sexto derecha?"

Hola tod@s!

Al día siguiente en el sexto derecha de la calle Velázquez número dos, en la oficina de Primera Plana, se trabaja muchísimo.

I am a little confused by this sentence. That is to say, I understand it, but I can't at all account for 'el sexto derecha de la calle Velázquez.' For a start, shouldn't it be 'la sexta derecha' - feminine? And what on earth does 'derecha' mean in this context? I have studied the dictionary, but I can't make it out at all. Could someone help me, please?

"El sexto" is correct, so is "derecha' for right ,right side, political right. "derecho changes the meaning.

Well, I understand "derecha" as puerta derecha (right door) for exmple, in Spain: 5º A (= 5th floor , door A) 6º 3 ( means 6th floor, door 3) 9º Izquierda ( =9th floor, left door) That´s why derecha ( or izquierda) is femenine in this case, derecha (puerta).

But why are the article and adjective masculine, and not feminine?

el sexto ( piso, masculine)and izquierda (puerta, femenine, although here, puerta is omited) - FromCastile, Mar 11, 2011
This for me is the best answer, but hey, we can't vote for comments.: - Deanski, Mar 12, 2011

I think it's just plain wrong. We're not always the confused students. Sometimes there are typos. grin

I would guess it mens something like "el sexto (edificio a la) derecha" since it later refers to the first floor (of a building.)

So 'sexto' is a pronoun....that makes sense. - Achsah, Mar 11, 2011

Sexto derecha means the sixth right. So you'd count off streets until you get to the sixth one, which is la calle Velazquez, and turn right.
