Why don't more people google?

Why don't more people google?

I am just a newbie here but I can't help but notice that we get all sorts of off the wall questions that have nothing to do with Spanish. Has no one heard of Google, or Yahoo, or Bing?

Now some of these questions are very entertaining, like what kind of birth control is best, etc. but I wonder if the powers that be could lay some ground rules for the questions?

If this has been covered before, I apologize. I did a search and didn't find anything on this subject.

¡Hola!, Ron Austin:

I think that too often people just forget about the usefulness of an internet search. Sometimes I have seen very active and knowledgeable members ask in the forum without doing the internet search. Sometimes, people just plain forget. Then, they have a Homer Simpson "DUH!" moment when thy are reminded. Embarassment takes a lot of forms.

Other times, there are people who just want someone else to do the search for them or maybe they have not yet got up to speed about how to do an internet search.

It's difficult to distinguish honest oversight from deliberate deception. For that reason, it is always best to continue to be patient and to avoid curt, rude or dismissive replies.

Here is a reply I created some time ago that can be copied and pasted into a reply window when an internet search is required. If you decide to use it, you can always find it right here or look for it in the Reference Section of Span¡shD!ct under the headings:

Technical support
Navigating Through SpanishDict
Internet Search Suggestions

It looks like this:

................An Internet Search Is Needed......................
The Information you have asked about is not available through the materials found on the Span¡shD!ct language learning web site. To find an answer to your question, someone must use “Google”, “Bing” or some other search engine.
Please conduct an internet search and after you find the information you want, if you still have a question about the Spanish language, return here and enter your question in in a new Question/Post/Thread page. While we want to help you in your pursuit of language learning, we need you to research and bring to us the basic information needed. In a way, we want you to help us to help you.

Thank You

Best regards/Muchos saludos,

Moe

Long time no see, Moe. I see now that you must have been at great spa; you look much rejuvenated! ;-) - Gekkosan, Mar 11, 2011
Thanks Moe, I agree that there is no need to humiliate a poster. It might boost your own ego to do that, but that is not what this site is for. - Ron_Austin, Mar 11, 2011
