Someone please kick my ...right now to make me study, jeje.
(If that title is too graphic I will change it.)
I should be studying from my textbook. I'm on a schedule and need to finish a chapter by next week, but instead I'm goofing off here on the forum. My textbook is hard and boring and the spanishdict.com forum is so fun and addictive, lol.
Someone please tell me to get back to work!

Ever since I first read this post, I have been fervently at work in the lab trying to concoct some scheme that we might all be able to use in order free us from that motivational vacuum that we all fall prey to time and again.

Unfortunately, the more I thought about it, the more uninspired and uncreative I felt. Before long, I had lapsed into a dull, disinterested and dilapidated state from which I lacked the essential impetus or incentive to escape.

But just when I was feeling my most unmotivated...Eureka!!! Inspiration struck!
For the last four hours I have been fervently yet fastidiously fashioning a fantastically efficient, phenomenal yet phantasmic pharmaceutically fit photodynamic flange fit with five floating phalanges for firing and flicking motivation right at that part of our anatomy where it will do the most good. This fantastic contraption will be guaranteed to fall on, feast upon and phagocytically digest that fallacious and flibbertigibbetous phlegm (humor that is) floating freely in your gullet and replace it with the most philosophizing of fluent philologists four foul friends ever flicked a finger at.
Update: The first prototype just came off the assembly line, this morning, and I should be shipping them to stores in you area in a matter of hours. Please try to hold out until then.
Sorry. This is not a free service.

Get back to work right now. Put your phone away, log off of FACEBOOK
, and remove yourself from any other distractions. It is time to get to work. You will feel so realived once you have gotten at least a great start on it. Get focused and get motivated. Good Luck! ![]()
Go back to studying right now!
If you didn't study now you'll never do it!
and I'm not kidding about this you're still a beginner and you need to improve your level!
You have no excuses and being lazy will not help you!
Happy, some people require a lot of pressure applied to them to make them do anything lol others just need the occasional prod to make them work more/study harder etc....

However, realistically speaking, you/anyone would be better re-examining your/their motives for studying Spanish to see how much of your desire is intrinsic (internal) and how much depends on external motivating factors like other people telling you should study.
Ask yourself why am I doing this? I mean in an honest, reflective way I don't mean with a negative attitude of why do I keep bothering learning to learn Spanish but what lights my fire to keep me persevering when the going gets tough.?
If we as humans really want to do something we must be motivated from within or we will not be likely to persevere with it and succeed. Yes, we all need to receive encouragement from others from time to time but we need to really desire to do something in our heart if we are to keep going.
I say this to help and encourage you

"Because it's a required course" is a really lousy motivator for studying. "because it's really interesting" is the best reason for studying something. Unfortunately, many people only realize that something is interesting (worthy of further study) long after their "formal" study has been completed. In high-school I had a really bad Spanish teacher (not only could she not speak Spanish, she had no desire to do so). Perhaps even with a "good" (but less than "inspiring") teacher, I would not have wanted to learn Spanish (at the time my passion was for mathematics).
Then I spent two summers in Guadalajara, Mexico and everything changed! At the simplest level, Spanish became a real language for me. I wanted to understand what people were saying and to be able to express myself. Since then I have studied several other languages (although Spanish remains my "2nd" language) and I still derive satisfaction from being able to understand the occasional phrase in Vietnamese or Arabic [French I really can understand and speak but the opportunities to do so are infrequent]).
In a similar vein, as a student, my least favorite subject was history. Yet, many years later, I find myself really enjoying reading historical novels (a blend of fiction with a serious dose of historical fact). In the process, I manage to learn a fair amount of real history (which I would not have done in my student days). Unfortunately hindsight is a great deal easier/clearer than foresight.
"If I had known then what I now know, I would have acted differently" is of no help. Not only did I not know it, I wouldn't have believed anyone who offered an opinion based on superior experience.I suspect that this is a universal rule, every generation must learn from its own mistakes.

I was exactly where you were , but now I stick to the old dictum.
" One word a day keeps Heidi at bay" ! And if you can do it in the preterite ,
and or subjunctive ,then mate you are in the home stretch.

Happy, I would love to offer my ever-effective words of encourgement, but I've been in a fog since class last night. First, I messed up my sentence of the day really bad, wrote "balled out" instead of "bawled out" in another post (I was probably closer with the orginal description, but I digress), then I responded to some forum translation questions with all the tempered skill and accuracy of a Mack truck.
You know you're in bad shape when your forum friends PM you and say "please stop!".
Anyway, how about
You'd better start studying right now or you'll end up being an old retired person who has nothing to do but sit home and watch SpanishDict.com
Maybe that will scare you into studying. If not, I will tell Heidita.
What can we say, get back to work.!
If you have any questions let us know. Seriously, though I know hiow many times have told myself. I am going to study all the words you have complied and have not done it. How long is the chapter? Maybe you´re overwhelming yourself trying to all at once.

Come on Happy, you are our motivation. You have to be our example. You can have a little fun. OK you are done. Get back to work and show us the way!
