"¿por qué lo molestes?" does this mean why does it bother you?
I need to know whether my use of the verb "molestar" and the direct object are correct.

We will have to send our friend Sam, very advanced level actually but too tired or something, jeje
The sentence is not correct, not due to the lo , which is the correct pronoun, but due to the use of subjunctive here.
Por qué te molesta (esto) ? Why does it bother you?
¿Por qué lo molestas? Why do you bother him?
Por qué le molestas? Same thing, but this is really incorrect, even though widely accepted, called leísmo, the correct pronoun should be lo![]()
To get this right, you have to think about what is doing the bothering. "Why does it bother you?" In this sentence "It" is doing the bothering. So, you would say. "?Por que te molesta?" Let me know if this helps.
"¿Porqué le (not 'lo') molestes?" = "Why do you bother/annoy him/her?" "¿Porqué te molesta?" = "Why does it/he/she bother you?"
Oops! "¿Porqué le molestas?"
According to Heidita it should be "lo" but according to our dictionary (note pronouns)::
molestar transitive verb 1. to bother (perturbar) * perdone que le moleste -> I'm sorry to bother you * ¿le molesta que fume? -> do you mind if I smoke?
I am pretty sure it is correct, and that is what it means. (I'm intermediate level in Spanish)
