Where's the love for Paralee?
Ok, this may be deemed as unimportant, but I've noticed Paralee is a goddess here at Span¡shD!ct. She does the videos and SO much more, including the Reference area. She's been here since before I joined back in late '08 early '09.
I'm just curious, why her rep is so low. Where as some of the other admin have astronomical rep numbers. She's obviously very important and helpful, and deserves much love and respect (as do all of our Admin).
I'm not targetting, nor trying to complain or anything. I say all this in good-hearted curiousity. Any ideas? Lol, and can't we show some love to Paralee? ![]()

I think the question has been well answered already, but it does bring the reflection about whether the term "reputation" is really the best description for what it measures. In some cases, such as Heidita, Eddy and Lazarus, the term fits, since they are extremely helpful members without whose contributions the Forum simply wouldn't be quite the same.
On the other hand, as has been clearly established by this discussion, what "reputation" measures is really mostly the level of participation - not necessarily the quality of that participation. So a member can earn a very high reputation posting all sorts of fun games, and posting replies to such games, for example, without ever contributing much in terms of teaching or even learning a whole lot about either language. Likewise, the contributions of people like Paralee, or those who spend time organizing and moderating the Skype chats, go unremarked, because there is no way to assign reputation points for that work, valuable and intense as it is.
Furthermore I believe that the the value of a member's contribution is also skewed by the fact that comments cannot be voted, nor earn reputation. Sometimes the most valuable answers are given through the comments.
Altogether, though, I think that as long as things are set the way they currently are, it would be more accurate to refer to that value as "participation", rather than "reputation".
You are too sweet, DJ Huero. Thank you all for your kind thoughts.
I do wish I could participate in the forum more often, but fortunately, I'm very busy working on creating new and awesome resources for SpanishDict. Plus, Heidi, Eddy, Mariana and many many others do such an awesome job answering questions before I can even read them! I wouldn't know what to do with myself without them.
I may only have 9,000 reputation points or so, but I know I am appreciated by wonderful threads like this one and the messages I get through PM and Facebook. SpanishDict users are the kindest people on this planet, I'm sure of it.
I think she knows, that we know, just how important her work is.Tell me then, amigos, just where would we be without her. It is however very pleasing to be acknowledged.
I hearby award 100,000 appreciation points to Paralee (just for starters)
Paralee is really an employee who works behind the scenes with the video lessons, dictionary entries, and the Phrasebook.
Because she does not often participate in the forum it is logical that she does not gain many reputation points.
I'm sure that she'd be happy to know that you are concerned about her. ![]()
She probably got scared off by all of the "Paralee is hot!", "Is Paralee single?", and "What is Paralee's phone number?" threads. ![]()
Just a guess, DJ, but I think it only results from the system setup. Paralee´s work in the other areas doesn´t result in rep points and she only posts on the answers board now and then. The other admins are posting constantly, so their scores are super high (as they should be!) ![]()
¡Muchas Muchas Gracias Paralee!
I'm disappointed that you are not in the new pronunciation videos.

Our love for Paralee is not expressed in reputation points.
We hold it in our hearts.

D.J thank you for your concern for our lovely Paralee ![]()
I think that both Marianne and Chris together have perfectly explained why Paralee's reputation points are much lower than those of the other administrators. I suspect she is not that concerned about such matters and is very happy to work in the background to continue to make this a unique and outstanding website for learning Spanish..
From reading some of the many comments and posts expressing gratitude for the new pronounciation videeos made using a male and female native, and having read other comments in the grammar section in the past, I suspect that Paralee realizes that she is very well appreciated and greatly loved
I think that if Paralee had the time, and perhaps the interest too, she would try to gain the reputation points. I have noticed that some fluent Spanish speakers have low learning point scores but then they would not need to do the exercises and gain the points as they are already fluent
She doesn't post a lot, so there aren't many posts to rep.
But whenever she does she gets repped like crazy.
Okay, I just tried voting for several of her reference articles. Although I seem to have gotten the 1 point for voting, she didn't get the 10 points for being voted for (and she did for votes for regular posts during the same time period). I guess that once it is a reference article, the points no longer go to the author. That doesn't seem quite fair.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention DJ. Clearly she deserves more appreciation and points. How do we do this?
Si, Donde esta el amor por Paralee?
Ella me ensena todo el espanol que yo se- en Learn Spanish Videos 1+2.
