Game for voice chat: Any ideas?
We are looking for a game to play on skype this following week-end, any ideas?
Remember this is voice, so not any game can be played...let me know

How about 20 questions? The person whose "turn" it is thinks of any thing (animal, vegetable, mineral) and the other people have to ask him questions one by one in order to figure out what the item is. For this game, whoever guesses correctly gets a point. Then it's that person's "turn" and the first question goes to the next one in line.
Decide the order at the beginning of the game and stick to it so that everyone has the same number of opportunitites to ask questions. Each question has to be answered "yes" or "no"
All of the questions have to be in Spanish when it's a native English speaker's "turn" and all of the questions have to be in English when it is a native Spanish speaker's "turn". Or, you could make it that all of the questions have to be in Spanish from English speakers and all of the questions have to be in English from native Spanish speakers.
Those whose native language is neither Spanish nor English can ask the question in whichever of these languages they want to work on.
How about a game of false identity. First person starts and next one adds on to it .
1) Me llamo es maria cada días voy a trabajar en una restaurante .
2) Quisierá un bocadillo y un cerveza ,pronto chica.
And so on each person adding onto the other , and making up situations and false
identities.
Each person has to describe 3 easy words to his/her team, and has to define each word without saying some 'key words' ( I can select the words for everybody, they would be previously provided).
Timing : 1,30 min
For example, you have to describe mar without saying:
azul
océano
barco
ola
agua
(it wouldn't be valid words like oleaje, marinero, oceánico, barca, etc...)
It would be valid "te puedes bañar en él en verano, es donde viven las ballenas, lo ves desde la playa, es salado" you have to use your imagination.
Or, describe Heidita without saying:
Spanish teacher
Queen
Forum moderator
Dunce corner
Klume
If you say a forbidden word, you don't win points for it. If you reach all your words, you'll get extra points.
It can seem difficult, but I remember that the last time people had to describe words (Jen's game!), beginners did extraordinarily good!
I'm not sure what this game is called, but it is a lot of fun. It is a great memory and learning game.
Start with A. The first person thinks of an A word. The second person repeats the A word and adds a word that begins with B. The third person repeats A word and B word then adds a word beginning with C.
Oh, that is all the way through Z. Can play with any number of people AND in any language.
Here is a game we used to play to pass the time during long drives when I was child (cuando era una niña).
It's either, "I'm going on a picnic" or "I'm going on a trip." It helps build vocabulary and memory.
The first person says, "I'm going on a picnic and I'm going to bring...hot dogs."
The second person says, "I'm going on a picnic and I'm going to bring hot dogs and buns."
The third person says, "I'm going on a picnic and I'm going to bring hot dogs, buns and mustard."
The fourth person says, "I'm going on a picnic and I'm going to bring hot dogs, buns, mustard and pickles."
You keep going until someone cannot remember the words in order and then you start over.
A few ideas from class:
- Tell 2 stories, (they can even be single sentences, for example "Last summer I slept all night in a tree!" at least 1 must be a lie, everyone else has to ask you questions to see if you are lying.
- Word association
- rhythmic list (This is like Ron's idea but with a faster pace)- everyone taps out a rhythm like a metronome and you have to say a word associated with your topic within your time or it skips you and goes to the next person - can start easy with days of the week or months of the year in order and then move on to "things in the bathroom" or "things related to politics"
- one person describes an item for others to guess
- everyone describes an item for one person to guess
- Last letter first letter e.g. bus --- steak --- key --- yellow
- Reading / pronunciation - everyone must read a set text and try to pronounce every word correctly, as soon as you pronounce one incorrectly you must stop and count the number you pronounced right. The person with the highest number of correctly pronounced words before a mistake is the winner.
- Spelling B - practices the alphabet as well as spelling, and everyone takes turns finding words for the others to spell, it's fun finding the most difficult words possible!
- onomatopoeia game - English speakers say the English onomatopoeic noises for different animals and Spanish speakers guess which animals they are, and vise verse. E.g. "Moo" Is it a whale? No! MOOOOOOOO Is it a cow? Yes! This sounds silly but it's really fun and interesting because every language has different words for these sounds, and there's a reason why they're some of the first words we teach kids - they usually demonstrate a great variety of the sounds within a language so it's good pronunciation practice.
That's all I can think of now, I know some of the ideas are similar to those of other people, sorry about that!
How about a game with numbers. Someone says a number in Spanish like setenta y ocho and the first person who writes 78 gets a point. Maybe someone else could expand this idea a bit. I could use some practice on numbers over 100. Then maybe make a sentence with a number in it or ask a question with a number in it. Well, It is just an idea to think about.
Meat, Fruit, Vegetable, Dessert
The first person gives the name of a food in one of those categories, then the next person has to give another item in the same category. Then that person says another food in a different category and so on. I just made this up so I haven't got it all quite figured out yet.
