Eventually. "Con el tiempo" vs "finalmente"

Question

Can they both be used? Are they used in different circumstances.

Say I wanted to say "eventually they signed the letter" would that be

con el tiempo firmaban la carta

or

Finalmente, firmaban la carta

?

What about "al fin"? I think "eventualmente" doesn't work here for that.

"Finalmente" is better for this situation.

You could also say, "En fin...."

"Con el tiempo" is more like "Ya cuando había pasado el tiempo, ....." Nuance of a very long time .
