To hide from something

If i wanted to say, he wanted to hide from the people, would it be

Quería occultar a la gente?

Me quiero esconder del mundo. I don't know what people you mean by gente, I would say del mundo or del todo.

I was going to say "A doesn't mean from at all, it can mean ....... the bridge that connects the pronoun to the thing the pronoun is reflecting (IE Le doy a él) thingy (don't know how to say this grammatically correct)

OR it can be personal A etc.... de is there for from in this use. "

Or a few other things.

but you're right it says "algo a alguien" and I haven't heard it used like that. I'd love an explanation of how A means from there.

Ok, I am a bit confused.

When I type ocultar into the dictionary above it says

"occultar algo a alguien " - "to hide something from somebody "

So according to this, the object from which one hides something, comes after the "a"

I realise i made a mistake by not putting se, so i would have thought it would be

Quería occultarse a la gente?

But if you say its the opposite than its "Quería occultar la gente a se ?

This is a little insight from my Spanish professor and has

helped me:

"a" is the psychological symbol of getting involved; momentum

"de" is the psychological symbol of separation
