I wouldn't be complaining...

Question

Hi guys,

Can anyone help me out with a translation for this phrase? In english we use it as a preface to something we want to complain about, more or less to place the blame on someone else - ie, "I wouldn't be complaining, but you told me you were going to pick me up right at 6".

My best translation is "No me estaría quejando", or even "No me quejaría" (I wouldn't complain) but since this is a bit of a colloquial phrase I don't know if this makes sense...

No quiero quejarme / No me quiero quejar. I must say, that in English I have never heard "I wouldn't be complaining" in the sense you are using, I am from Texas. I think I would hear "I hate to complain but........"

Which would be like "Siento quejarme pero........" (Sorry to complain but) or if you want to get literal "Odio quejarme pero........" but I don't know how that one works so......

i don't know, I'm from the north and it's not an unusual thing to say...but the difference between a phrase like "Sorry to complain", is that if you say "I wouldn't be complaining" basically to subtly place the blame on another. person - luke77, Mar 7, 2011
