How do you say "toilet training" ?

I'm interested in phrase to use with people without necessarily a lot of education to describe the process of teaching a child to use the toilet and not "go" in his or her diaper. The best I can come up with is "sacar el pañal." "Control del esfincter" parece muy tenico. Is there another common phrase?
"Sacar el pañal" does not imply the long process of education that might well be necessary.
