Chévere means "cool," and is used in the same contexts you'd use cool in English. Here in the Dominican Republic, at least, you can also use "chulo" o "jevi" grin

In Mexico they use padre, and in Chile it is bacan - BellaMargarita, Mar 7, 2011

The following phrases are acceptable and interchangable to say the word "cool", as in saying, "Man, that's cool!"

-Chévere

-Chido (also spelled chiedo)

-Bacán

-Qué padre

Those are those most commonly used. However there are other regional phrases and words.

chido, bacán, qué padre. Cuidado con las tildes compa. If I'm not mistaken Huero means white guy? verdad? :) - Deanski, Mar 7, 2011
I always hear emphasis on the first a so I assumed it was accented there, and I didn't think there was a accent on e... but I don't usually see those written... - DJ_Huero, Mar 7, 2011
Not to mention, mis compas y yo son del barrio (hence why I know all that slang jaja).... anyways, huero is like moreno. It doesn't translate, it's more a skin tone... huero is light skinned just like moreno is dark skinned. - DJ_Huero, Mar 7, 2011
But there are, huero mexicanos y tambien moreno mexicanos... usually only called by there skin tone though. EX: "Ey huero, ¿qué onda?" ;-) - DJ_Huero, Mar 7, 2011
Jeje, fuiste tú el que usó "güey" por acá, no es palabra mala en ciertos contextos, pero me temo que alguien se enoje si le llamo así. te felicito! tal vez lo usaría también un día de estos.:) - Deanski, Mar 7, 2011
Jaja, no, no me molesta... es mi nombre entre mis compas. =) - DJ_Huero, Mar 7, 2011
Huero o güero also means blonde... - chileno, Mar 8, 2011
Indeed... you can say, "Esa jevita bonita tiene güero cabello bello". (sorry I like to rhyme) =) - DJ_Huero, Mar 8, 2011

Mongolia? Really? I'm from Mongolia and I've never heard this word. In fact, I lived in the northern part for a while. Where did you get this info? - MrSillyInc, Jul 21, 2011

One of the most common non-swear words in use amongst us teenagers in Caracas so many years ago. I'm glad to see it's not completely obsolete, like groovy or tubular.
