Continuing the recent trend of abusing men, here's a silly joke I read today: go ahead and have a go at translating it if you wish! smile

"¿En qué se parecen los hombres a los calcetines? En que ambos sirven para meter la pata".

jeje, abusos, pero es que sois únicos, muy divertido, gekko - 00494d19, Mar 7, 2011
How are men and socks alike? You put your foot in both of them. - wuncie, Mar 7, 2011
@Denice: That is a very interesting interpretation! :-) Not quite right, but it gives pause for though! - Gekkosan, Mar 7, 2011
Unfournately I can't translate this without losing the pun - BellaMargarita, Mar 7, 2011

Oh, well, you're the only beings on this world capable to commit such a terrible fashion crime:

Socks and sandals.

¿Es un juego de palabras?

Is it a play on words - "meter la pata" literally means to put the foot in, but it also means to make a mistake/goof. So, you can put your foot in a sock, and men are big lumoxes.

What amazes me about men and socks is that men don't seem to know how to buy their own socks.

Lo increíble de los hombres y los calcetines es que los hombres no pueden comprarlos por su mismo.

Amy: Please never, ever say "Más peor"! That is just like saying "More worse". If you wish to say "Even worse", you can say "Peor aún". :-) - Gekkosan, Mar 7, 2011
Gracias Gekko, I bow to your greenness. - amykay, Mar 7, 2011
In Japan wearing "tabi" with "zoori" is quite traditional (of course, those aren't real "tabi"). - samdie, Mar 7, 2011
Yeah they don't look quite the same with the foam beach thongs. - amykay, Mar 7, 2011

Well, I suppose an adaptation could be written along the lines of:

"Why is a man with his mouth open like a sock? Because he will put his foot in it".

Parece que llevar calcetines con las sandalinas se hace algo de moda.

It seems wearing socks and sandals is coming in style.

Corregid el español por favor.

Style schmyle - still looks dicriculous... - afowen, Mar 7, 2011
"sandalias". Better: "se está poniendo de moda". And I agree with Afowen. This looks plain ridiculous. - Gekkosan, Mar 8, 2011
Thanks for the corrections. Yea, I think it looks ridiculous as well - but someday it may not be considered a fashion faux pas. Scary thought! - lkelly, Mar 8, 2011

Aren't socks kind of floppy for that? :-P - Gekkosan, Mar 8, 2011
You need to think outside the... socks. Yeah, that's really bad... - afowen, Mar 8, 2011
