Raw onions don't agree with me.

I was with some Mexican friends earlier and this idea was expressed by them as: "Cebollas crudas me dan arudas". I didn't get the spelling of the last word because nothing was written down and I can't find it in any dictionary. I was given to understand that "aruda" or "arudas" is the word for heartburn but that is not the way heartburn is translated either. Any ideas?

Actually, here we would have said:

Las cebollas me sientan mal.

Gracias, Heidita. Las cebollas cosinadas no me sientan mal, sólo las crudas. - Jubilado, Mar 7, 2011

acidez or ardor are equivalents for "heartburn."
