Ese can be an adjective or a pronoun.

Ese libro es muy bueno (adjective)

Me gusta ése (pronoun --- always written with an accent).

Eso can be a pronoun and it's neutral. It does not need an accent because there's no equivalent adjective to differentiate it from (unlike ese vs. ése, above).

Me gusta eso (pronoun). Basically the same meaning as above. "Eso no es cierto" you can only use Eso and not Ese in this example.
