I've been wondering how to use "bien" to put emphasis on adjectives or when describing something. I have heard it used in cases like "fue bien difícil" or something like that, and I'm confused about when it can be used. Can you use "bien" as basically a synonym of "muy" to put emphasis on anything, or is it only used in certain contexts? Also, is it considered slang or can it be used more formally, too?

It's not slang but it sounds a little bit more formal "muy". So as it says, used before an adjetive or adverb, it means "muy".
