Does asistenta exist?

In my book, it only says asistente,but not asistenta. I wonder if asistenta ever exists in Spanish language?

la asistenta???? Or la asistente?

I looked again, i found this word, asistenta, but i found one more question:

asistente, it is like assistant in english,, but asistenta is like maid. they have different meaning.

How to say a female assistant in Spanish? Is la asistente more correct? Or la asistenta?

Words like that, that end in e usually have the male and female form both ending in e, but you might hear the a form once in a while and be understood, however in this form according to our dictionary at least, asistenta looks to mean something different.

Also, I tend to use "ayudante" and not "asistente" myself.

asistenta. 1. f. Mujer que sirve como criada en una casa sin residir en ella y que cobra generalmente por horas. 2. f. Criada seglar que sirve en convento de religiosas de las órdenes militares. 3. f. En algunas órdenes religiosas de mujeres, monja que asiste, ayuda y suple a la superiora. 4. f. Mujer del antiguo asistente (? funcionario público). 5. f. Criada que servía en el palacio real a damas, señoras de honor y camaristas que habitaban en él.
