Pelo y Cabello
I have heard "hair" translated as "pelo" or "cabello."
Are they the same, or is there a slight difference? Maybe its a dialectal variation??
.... Or something else entirely?

Pelo is any type of hair, be it on your head, on your body, & even fur for animals.
Cabello is just the hair on your head.
So if you're referring just to hair on your head, they are interchangeable.
Vello is specifically body hair. Peludo is furry. And I like the expression tomar el pelo.
I like the expression from Wisin y Yandel...
"le gusta cúando Wisin jale por el pelo..."

Tomar el pelo has the same meaning as to pull some ones leg. Te estoy tomando el pelo, I am pulling your leg just joking kind of thing. Me estás tomando el pelo = Are you pulling my leg. Are you having me on. etc.
