Yes, I am most certainly learning and making good progress as Cogumela and other natives/more advanced Spanish speakers have told me. I am encouraged by this but realize that there is still so much more to learn and understand so there is no room for pride or complacency As my pastor has said many times we are all in the biggest room of the house: ...the room for improvement! hahaha tongue wink smile LOL grin

Learning is a process... not an overnight event or you could also see it as a journey towards the goal of fluency or greater proficiency in , speaking, underrstanding, reading and writing Spanish.

Please don't be discouraged because you feel/think that you are not making sufficient progress. In my view, progress can be very difficult to accurately measure. Tests can never truly measure everything you know about any given subject ... they only can represent a cross-section of what you know or what you have been taught.

Most people will not be conscious of everything they are learning as much of it will be stored in their long-term memory and only recently acquired knowledge will still be in their short-term memory. For example when I test myself on flash cards here I can only recall a limited number of new words at one time (20 -30) but new associations will be in the process of being made between new words in Spanish and English especially for words that are very similar.

Peopls vary considerably in the speed at which they can recall new vocabulary , how much new information they can learn at once and how well they can apply this newly acquired knowledge but one thing is for certain, irrespective of how much or how fast you can learn you must keep applying/using what you have learnt in order to remember it as the saying goes use it or lose it!

As I have already said in one of my posts today, we, as the SD community, are not a collective Google translator, which makes us teach and learn, which in turn is no doubt quite illuminating smile

The problem is that most learning programs don't provide enough examples to form patterns or enough quizzes to force the brain to memorize. Maybe try choosing just one aspect of grammar. Then go to ten different sources (websites and books), focussing on the exercises provided for it. Then when you're doing the dishes or taking a shower or waiting to fall asleep, ask yourself, 'what do I remember from today's work?' It may be that you need a better foundation or base of knowledge before you can really understand what everyone is talking about (poco a poco, little by little).

¡Claro que sí! Yes, I have been here for almost a year and I have learned so much. If you do the lessons and practice the exercises on this site you can go very far in your learning of Spanish. It can also augment any courses that you are taking in school. You can use the flashcards to help you in your school practice. And we have Skype chats, where we can practice our Spanish with native speakers. Yes, there is much learning going on here at Spandict.com.

I come on here and I do some of the lessons and it really has helped. I also am in a spanish class at my school. Between the both of them I really learn a lot.

Please, you must be kidding.

Every time I access this site within 10 minutes I am learning something I did not know before!

It is a slow process, though. Don't get discouraged if you don't seem to be making great strides. Little by little is how you succeed!

For people over 18 (or so) "I am so learning Spanish." = "I am really learning Spanish." - samdie, Mar 2, 2011
