What does the word camara mean when the accent is at the END of the word? The word is from a famous song about native indians in the 1700s working as slves in Latin America. The line in the song goes "Plantacion adentro camara', sombras son la gente nada mas.

camara'

This is short for camarada, matewink

The accent is not on the letter but substituting a letter/swink

Gracias Heidita. The song is "Plantacion Adentro" written by Tite Curet Alonzo. and sung by Ruben Blades. I understand now about the accent. Thanks for the explanation - rvalderas1, Mar 1, 2011

I had to try this just for fun!. Please correct my errors!

"Plantación adentro camara', sombras son la gente nada mas"

"Inside of the plantation (fellas) people are nothing more than shadows".

The song is about Camilo Manrique, and indian killed by a supervisor on a sugar cane plantation.

It is a Puerto Rican song.

You can hear the song here:

I think (in the song) ,the accent facilitates the rhyme as the word does not appear anywhere with the accent on the final "a"
But then again spanish has changed in the last 400 years.
