Andrés y su novia. Andrés and his girlfriend

You are probably already familiar with the Spanish word y (and). But did you know that e is used instead of y in front of words beginning with “i” and “hi”?

Pablo e Inés Pablo and Inés

padre e hijo father and son

Before words beginning with “hie”, y is used.

acero y hierro steel and iron

And don't forget, "o" is replace by "u" when the following word sounds like o. - pesta, Feb 28, 2011

Thanks for this nice reminder. I looked in SpanishDict's reference section and did not see an article on it. I don't know if the topic is covered in some way that may be too hard to find.
