Why the green checkmark?

I've noticed green checkmarks in the answer boxes and elsewhere on the site. What do they mean?

Welcome to the forum!!

It means the original post author has clicked the "Accept" button on somebody's answer.

Updates to comments don't show up, other than the "last modified" timestamp visible on the answers main page.

It's a good idea not to click the "Accept" button too soon, because it robs everybody else from pitching in with answers (often better answers). "Accept" the best answer after you can see everybody's contributions.

See you around the forum!

Well i think I read that's what they represent anyways - lorenaventura, Feb 28, 2011
Good guess, but no cigar! :) I like your enthusiasm, though. - pesta, Feb 28, 2011
Well, you're right and wrong, there was comments left... but it actually means one of them has been chosen as the best answer. ;-P - DJ_Huero, Feb 28, 2011
Let's be precise. "Comments" should refer to these little message like this, and "Answers" are what we call those posts with "Vote" tags. The green check means an "Answer" was Accepted. - pesta, Feb 28, 2011
Only "Answers" can be Accepted, and an Accepted answer causes a green check with or without comments. ;-P - pesta, Feb 28, 2011
