"ella va a dar a luz pronto" oh okay that's what i got when i typed it into the translator but I thought is was wrong because of LUZ. i thought luz was light. I didn't think it made sense at first but it does lol. thanks. I'm going to use parir! - lorenaventura, Feb 27, 2011
Luz *is* light. It's a Spanish idiom. - pesta, Feb 27, 2011
renzo, doesn't parir carry a bad connotation? - Deanski, Feb 27, 2011

Whenever you come across something in English that you want to translate to Spanish, and the English is highly idiomatic (like "She's about to pop"), you can almost bet money that there's no direct translation.

You best bet is to rephrase the English so it's NOT idiomatic, but says what you mean, then translate that.

It's true that Spanish has its own large supply of idioms, but most of them are culturally distinct and different from the English idioms. You should learn the Spanish idioms, probably separate from any translation exercise.
