Hola, renzo,

¡Tú lo pidío!

I am reading a story about a chicano's experiences in an American school. In talking about American men, he says:

El papá se vestía con saco y corbata . . .

Do you think saco is Mexican slang for suit, or is it a proper word for suit, and why don't they use "traje"?

¡Gracias por su ayuda!

"Saco is usually a jacket, where traje is suit. so likely "jacket and tie" - pacofinkler, Feb 26, 2011

Buenas is what they say. It does not refer to Buenos días (obviously) or Buenas tardes o noches (which would fit because of the gender). Buenas is just a polite and shortened way of saying Good day!

not for 'buenas tardes'? then just 'muy buenas'? - margaretbl, Feb 26, 2011
It can mean Buenos dias, Buenas tardes, Buenas noches. I interpret it as Buenas Nuevas: I bear good news. - gone, Feb 26, 2011
Yes!!! Thank you so much, usa, I wondered if it was something like that. :) - galsally, Feb 27, 2011

"Me siento mucho cariño por ti" How is that/any other suggestions?

You can tell him:

Te tengo mucho cariño. (I am very fond of you...not necessarily in a romantic way) or Siento mucho cariño por ti (same idea)

Me siento muy bien cuando estamos juntos. (I feel very happy when we are together)

La paso muy bien contigo. (I always have a good time when I am with you)

What do you think?

Great ideas, thanks! Just don't want to give him the wrong idea, haha! - Sheily, Feb 26, 2011

This is probably an easy question, but if I want to say both, or the two of them, I would say "los dos", so....

If I wanted to say "the four of them", could I say "los cuatro", or would I have to say "los cuatro de ellos"?

I could not tell for sure that saco is used in Mexico to mean suit. I know for sure in Venezuela, where I have lived, they say saco.

From RAE: m. Can. y Am. Chaqueta, americana. (which means suit jacket)

Can we also say "Tengo resfriado," since resfriado is a noun as well?

Gracias smile

In Cuba, they say "Buenas" all the time. Whereever you've heard this, you've heard correctly! I don't know why it's said this way though, sorry! - Sheily, Feb 26, 2011
So it must be for 'tardes' implied, right? - margaretbl, Feb 26, 2011
I was hearing it in the morning, you see - I didn't explain that. - galsally, Feb 27, 2011

Ok! Here's one.

I would like to tell a friend that I'm very fond of him, but I don't want to convey that I have any amorous feelings towards him.

"Me siento mucho cariño por ti" How is that/any other suggestions?

Many thanks!
