Estos tanques nuevos del ejército dejan *bastante que desear.

These new army tanks leave a bit to be desired.

Edit: Thanks Cogu - for those wondering I had 'algo' instead of bastante.

"dejan un poco que desear" or maybe "dejan bastante que desear" Very good sentence, Kiwi! :) - cogumela, Feb 25, 2011
I thought about using the first one but then I thought it might mean 'leave little to be desired' which is the opposite to what I wanted to say - what do you think? - Kiwi-Girl, Feb 25, 2011

Me pregunto cuántos kilómetros pueden viajar con un litro de gasolina.

I wonder how many miles per gallon they get?

Is there a phrase in spanish for "miles per gallon"?

Perfect, theresa! Question marks are not required :) Also : Me pregunto cuántos "kilómetros por litro de" gasolina pueden viajar. :) - cogumela, Feb 25, 2011
Most Spanish speakers use the metric system, so there is not a practical translation for 'miles per gallon'. - Nathaniel, Feb 25, 2011

El próximo año "será obligatorio" ( you need future tense) llevar cinturón de seguridad en estas escobas. ( the literal translation would be : será requerido / se requerirá ) Great, pesta :) - cogumela, Feb 25, 2011
